About The Role

We are looking for a talented Head of Sustainability to work in close partnership with our Chief Operating Officer, Brand Director & Co Founder Marnie Goding and our Executive Leadership Team, to take the lead on our sustainability journey. As part of our Executive Leadership Team, you will be responsible for operating at both a strategic and operational level, positioning ELK as an industry leader in transparency, circularity, and climate action; utilising your subject matter expertise to engage, consult, advise and educate both internal and external stakeholders along the way.

Working towards goals of Net Zero Emissions and 100% traceability and transparency, we are also a proud 1% for the Planet member committed to donating 1% of our revenue to environmental causes.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Sustainability strategy – create, set and monitor progress against strategic goals

  • Be a trusted subject matter expert – utilise your industry knowledge and connections to keep abreast of emerging trends, changing industry best practise, legislation and managing risk. Keep the team informed, providing mentorship, education & coaching as required

  • Governance – oversee and regularly update internal governance documentation including policies and processes, ensuring best practise management across all facets of the business

  • Oversee ELK’s ethical sourcing program, working closely with key suppliers to ensure compliance with our Supplier Code of Conduct and continual improvement on social and environmental performance

  • In partnership with the Marketing team, identify opportunities to share stories, develop impactful partnerships, campaigns and communications that uphold and highlight ELKs sustainability efforts across both internal and external channels

  • Confidently, proactively & positively engage in the community – attend networking forums, meaningfully contribute to industry discussion, and accurately represent the brand

What We’ll Love About You

You have a love for and personal connection to sustainability. You’re open, collaborative, passionate about achieving great outcomes, and can balance blue sky innovation with operational reality. You know the levers to pull to achieve positive engagement both within and outside the business to achieve meaningful, incremental change.

Through natural interest you remain abreast of industry trends and changing legislation, and utilise a fact based approach to influence and educate those around you. You’re familiar with both the local and international sustainability landscape, and come accompanied with a thorough understanding of the tools and resources that support businesses making progress in this space including B Corporation, Sedex, Higg Index, living wage, APCO and carbon accounting.
 You love working with people to make it happen, from partnering with senior leadership to bring the strategy to life, through to providing education, coaching and direction to our operational teams to ensure engagement, connection & accountability to our sustainability journey.

Who are you?

You are a perfect match with:

  • Environment, Sustainable Fashion (or related) Qualification, or similar experience

  • At least 5+ years’ experience in similar role within a fashion apparel environment

  • Exceptional time management skills, with the ability to prioritise according to return on investment

  • A confident, considered and thoughtful approach to public speaking with the ability to accurately advocate on behalf of the brand

  • Exceptional communication with the ability to quickly build mutually respectful, productive relationships

  • Experience in Microsoft Office Suite - Intermediate Skills (ie PowerPoint, Word and Excel)
